THE ROCK BOX: OUR PHILOSOPHY

Rock Box Sports is an all-purpose site offering sports content of all types: predictions and selections, pre- and post-game analysis, opinion/commentary, insider information and interviews. In all pursuits our mission is to inform, entertain, provoke, and, most of all, to get beneath the hype machine of the mainstream American sports media and dig out some basis of objective truth, or at least an informed, well-supported opinion. To use just one example: if you believe that Peyton Manning deserved the 2010 NFL MVP (he didn’t- Drew Brees did- and we can prove it) then you may benefit greatly from exposure to Rock Box Sports. We know what kind of information matters, we know where to find it, and we leave no stone unturned.  It’s a little like Plato’s “Allegory of the Den.” According to Plato, the average person lives their whole life sitting around a fire in an allegorical cave. Because these people have never been outside of the cave, they do not see the world as it truly is. They see only reflections on the wall. Shadows. In their ignorance, they perceive these shadows as absolute reality. They live their lives oblivious to the entire world, the real truth, that exists outside their little cave. The way Plato saw it, the essential leaders of any society are those that venture out of the cave, see the real world that lies beyond, and bring this truth back to the people. These are the philosopher-kings. Consider us the philosopher-kings of sports reporting, analysis, and opinion. Welcome to reality. Put down your USA Today Sports Page. You’re out of the cave.
